Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has become stricter against food adulteration in the state. Regular inspection, collection of food samples and legal action against adulterers have been intensified keeping in mind the safety of public health. In the last two years, a fine of Rs 95.91 lakh has been collected from violators of food safety rules.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling gave this information in a written reply in the Assembly. In response to MLA Sauvik Biswal's question, the Minister said, "Continuous inspection and sample testing is being done in various districts and urban areas of the state to check the quality of food."
Collected more than 39 thousand samples in two years
According to the minister, 7,392 legal samples and 32,498 surveillance samples have been collected from different parts of the state in the last two years. That is, during this period, a total of 39,890 food samples have been collected for inspection.
After detection of adulterated food, not only fine, adulterated food is seized and destroyed where necessary. So far about 427.86 quintals of adulterated food items have been seized and destroyed.
