Bhubaneswar: Big steps are going to be taken towards solving the long-standing river water dispute. An important meeting will be held between Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Deo Sai under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 1. The meeting is seen as a decisive step in resolving the water sharing dispute between the two states.
Odisha Advocate General Pitambar Acharya said on Monday that the way to resolve the Mahanadi dispute through mutual understanding is slowly opening. Details of previous meetings between the two states have been submitted by the Central Water Commission (CWC) to the River Water Disputes Tribunal and the tribunal has accepted them on record.
Before this meeting, on September 20, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Deo Sai came to Bhubaneswar and had a discussion with Mohan Majhi for about an hour. At that time, Sai said that there is no major problem between the two states regarding the river and it is possible to solve it through dialogue. Both sides also agreed to accept the recommendations of the Central Water Commission as it was in the interest of both states.
