Bhubaneswar: The monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly has been adjourned indefinitely. In view of the flood situation, the Chief Secretary proposed to end the session early. After this, Bachaspati Surma Padhi announced an indefinite adjournment to the house.
The current session was scheduled for 9 working days. However, the house has been functioning for only 5 days. A total of 4 bills have been passed in these 5 working days.
Right from the beginning of the session, there was chaos in the House over various issues. Members of the opposition protested especially over the MMDR Amendment Act and the issue of errors in school textbooks. As a result, housework was often interrupted.
Even on the first day of the monsoon session, the work of the House was interrupted for a short time due to opposition protests. The chaos continued on the second day as well.
On the fifth working day of the session on Monday, opposition members protested in the House over the MMDR issue. As a result, the Speaker adjourned the House shortly after the House started. On the other hand, the ongoing flood situation in the state has also been cited as a reason to end the session early.
