Bhubaneswar: There is a big update in the case of the death of ACF Soumyanranjan Mohapatra. On the one hand, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of Soumaryanjan's wife Vidyabharti Panda, while on the other hand, the accused (the then chef) Manmath Kubha was arrested by Parlakhemundi police.
According to information, Vidyabharti Panda challenged the decision of the Odisha High Court and went to the Supreme Court. He applied for quashing of the criminal case against him and protection from arrest pending trial. However, the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal today.
In July 2021, Soumyaranjan Mohapatra, working as ACF in Parlakhemundi, Gajapati district, was severely burnt in his official residence. He later died while undergoing treatment in Cuttack.
Soumaryanjan's family accused his death of murder. His wife Vidyabhari Panda, the then DFO Najha Keshari Behera and chef Manmath Kubha were named in the case. Later, the state government handed over the investigation of the case to the crime branch.
Meanwhile, Parlakhemundi police have arrested accused Manmath Kubha in the case. Police arrested Manmath in his own village this morning on the basis of a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued by the Hon'ble SDJM, Parlakhemundi court.
According to the police, there is a case against Manmath under section 302/120-B of IPC. After his arrest, he is being produced in the court of SDJM, Parlakhemundi for further legal proceedings.
